Final Administrative Registration (FAR) is required when a student has completed all other degree requirements and does not need to take any more courses at RPI.
Additional Information
FAR is recorded as registration in ADMN 4400. A student who is not currently active may also need to be readmitted before completing FAR.
What the student needs to do
- The student contacts their Associate Dean or academic adviser in their school or department.
- The student indicates their intent to complete their degree and whether any courses remain. If courses remain, the student specifies whether they will be taken at RPI or transferred in from another institution. If coursework is to be transferred, the student must complete the transfer credit approval form to receive approval.
- The school or department confirms the student’s status and remaining requirements, then directs the student to the appropriate path below.
Active students who need FAR
- The school or department contacts the Registrar’s Office to register the student in ADMN 4400 (FAR).
- No readmission is needed.
Inactive students with no courses left to complete
- The school or department submits a readmission request to the Office of Undergraduate Education at oue@rpi.edu.
- If the request is approved, the Registrar’s Office readmits the student and registers them in ADMN 4400 (FAR).
Inactive students who will take courses at RPI
- The student contacts the Dean of Students Office (DOSO)/Hub Advisor to request readmission.
- Once readmitted, the student registers for their remaining courses. FAR does not apply, because the student will be enrolled in other RPI courses.
Inactive students who will transfer courses in
- The student submits the transfer credit approval form to the Registrar’s Office.
- The school or department submits a readmission request to the Office of Undergraduate Education at oue@rpi.edu.
- If the request is approved, the Registrar’s Office readmits the student and registers them in ADMN 4400 (FAR).
- Upon completing the course, the student requests an official transcript showing the final grade to be sent to the Registrar’s Office.
- The transfer credit is then posted to the student’s RPI record.
