Courses completed at other colleges or universities while in high school may be considered for transfer credit.
- View the Undergraduate Transfer Guide for a list of courses from other colleges and universities approved for transfer credit. A course in the Undergraduate Transfer Guide does not guarantee transfer credit in all cases.
Approval Process
- Request that an official transcript (electronic or physical copy) from the college or university be sent directly to RPI at transfercredit@rpi.edu. Opened or forwarded transcripts cannot be approved.
- The Office of the Registrar will work with the appropriate departments to ensure courses are eligible for transfer. Students may be required to submit additional course information or a course syllabus.
- The Office of the Registrar will email your RPI email address with an evaluation of your credit.
Eligibility
- You must earn a C- grade or better to be awarded transfer credit.
- Transfer credit will be forfeited if you take an equivalent Rensselaer course.
- Only 8 credits of the HASS Core Curriculum requirement can be transferred.
- All approved transfer credits that were taken before entering Rensselaer can be applied to the Math/Science Core. However, once matriculated, any additional transfer credit requires approval from the Associate Dean of the School of Science.
- All incoming students must submit their request for college credit from courses taken while in high school by the end of their first year.
- Students are unable to receive duplicate credit for courses taken for college credit and through Advanced Placement exams.
- Transfer credit grades are not calculated toward QPA/GPA.
- A maximum of 32 credits in total, of dual enrollment/AP/transfer, is allowed.
